Robinson Crusoe Christian Movie Review
(2016)On a tiny exotic island, Tuesday, an outgoing parrot lives with his quirky animal friends in paradise. However, Tuesday can't stop dreaming about discovering the world. After a violent storm, Tuesday and his friends wake up to find a strange creature on the beach: Robinson Crusoe. Tuesday immediately views Crusoe as his ticket off the island to explore new lands. Likewise, Crusoe soon realizes that the key to surviving on the island is through the help of Tuesday and the other animals. It isn't always easy at first, as the animals don't speak "human." Slowly but surely, they all start living together in harmony, until one day, when their comfortable life is overturned by two savage cats, who wish to take control of the island. A battle ensues between the cats and the group of friends but Crusoe and the animals soon discover the true power of friendship up against all odds (even savage cats).
This animated retelling appears aimed at families, but parents should expect storm danger, chase scenes, and cartoon conflict involving predatory cats and stranded-animal survival. Surface content seems fairly light, yet the peril and self-reliant adventure themes make this a better fit for families ready to talk about courage, fear, and dependence on others.

Robinson Crusoe Christian Movie Review (2016)
Guidance: Low Concern
This animated retelling appears aimed at families, but parents should expect storm danger, chase scenes, and cartoon conflict involving predatory cats and stranded-animal survival. Surface content seems fairly light, yet the peril and self-reliant adventure themes make this a better fit for families ready to talk about courage, fear, and dependence on others.
Why This Guidance Level
This guidance level reflects a family adventure with likely mild content overall, but enough storm danger, animal threat, and action conflict to matter for younger or more sensitive viewers. The bigger issue is not harsh content so much as how the film handles fear, survival, teamwork, and self-reliance, which gives parents a natural opening for conversation.
Faith & Worldview Perspective
The story seems to lean into familiar family-film ideas about friendship, bravery, and working together under pressure. Those are worthwhile themes, but survival stories can also drift toward a message that rescue comes mainly through cleverness and courage. Christian families may want to contrast that with the deeper hope Christians have in God’s care and, ultimately, in Jesus Christ rather than in self-sufficiency alone. Parents may want to discuss the difference between healthy courage and acting as if we do not need God’s help.
Truths Reflected
- Friendship and cooperation matter in times of danger.
- Courage often grows when characters protect others instead of thinking only of themselves.
Tensions to Discuss
- A survival-focused story may imply that human resourcefulness is enough, which can underplay dependence on God.
- Conflict may be framed mainly as defeating enemies rather than seeking wisdom, mercy, and right stewardship of creation.
Content & Discernment Markers
Occult & Spiritual Content
- Occult material does not stand out here. The adventure appears grounded in animal comedy, island survival, and natural danger rather than magic or spiritual practice.
Sexuality & Relationships
- Sexual content is not a meaningful issue in this animated family story. Any relationship material is likely limited to light comic interaction rather than romance-driven content.
Identity Themes
- The film seems more focused on belonging, friendship, and finding one’s place in a group than on heavier identity messaging. Parents may want to discuss how our deepest identity is received from God, not earned by proving ourselves.
Violence & Intensity
- A violent storm is part of the story’s setup, creating danger, fear, and survival tension. For younger children, weather disaster and separation can feel more intense than the film’s bright animated style suggests.
- A battle between the island animals and threatening cats adds chase-and-attack energy, with the predators functioning as a recurring menace. This matters for Christian families because the conflict may be exciting for older kids but unsettling for very young viewers. Parents may want to discuss how courage differs from revenge.
Language & Humour
- No notable profanity stands out from the film. Parents should still expect the usual animated-film banter, teasing, and comic put-downs that can model impatient or mocking speech.
Other Content Notes
- The stranded-on-an-island premise naturally brings themes of fear, scarcity, and making do without normal security. That can open good conversation about gratitude, stewardship, and trusting God when life feels unstable.
Notable Moments
- Storm survival: A major storm creates the central survival crisis and may be the most intense sequence for younger viewers.
- Cats attack: The conflict with predatory cats appears to drive the film’s action and suspense.
Discussion Prompts
- Fear and trust: When the characters face danger, what helps them keep going? What does it look like to be brave without pretending we are in control of everything?
- Biblical guidance: Scripture calls us to courage, but not self-made confidence. We can bring fear to God and trust His care.
- Scripture: Psalm 56:3, Joshua 1:9
- Teamwork and serving others: Which characters use their abilities to help the group instead of just protecting themselves?
- Biblical guidance: God gives different gifts for the good of others, and love is shown in service.
- Scripture: 1 Corinthians 12:4-7, Philippians 2:3-4
- Enemies and conflict: How does the movie show dealing with threats? Is there a difference between protecting others and enjoying payback?
- Biblical guidance: Christians can talk honestly about protection and justice while remembering that hatred and revenge do not reflect the heart of Christ.
- Scripture: Romans 12:17-21, Matthew 5:44
- Self-reliance and God’s care: Does the story make it seem like survival depends only on being clever and strong? Where do we see our need for God?
- Biblical guidance: Wisdom and effort matter, but our ultimate help comes from the Lord, and Christian hope rests in Him.
- Scripture: Psalm 121:1-2, John 15:5
