Frozen II Christian Movie Review

(2019)

Elsa, Anna, Kristoff and Olaf head far into the forest to learn the truth about an ancient mystery of their kingdom.

Frozen II is a family fantasy adventure with warm sibling and parent-child themes, but it also leans heavily on spirits, enchanted forces, and a mystical source of truth outside a Christian framework. The action and romance material are light, yet the spiritual ideas and message about where answers are found give parents worthwhile conversation points.

Content

Content Rating: 6/10

Moderate

The story world is openly enchanted. Agnarr describes the forest as protected by 'the most powerful spirits of all... those of air... of fire... of water... and earth.' Later, Ahtohallan is introduced as a special river said to hold answers about the past. For Christian families, this matters because spiritual power and guidance are tied to mystical forces rather than to the Lord. Parents may want to discuss the difference between fantasy elements and real spiritual truth in light of Jesus Christ. Agnarr recounts a sudden conflict in the Enchanted Forest: 'They were attacking us,' followed by 'It was a brutal battle.' The scene includes shouting, grunting, a character yelping, and the loss of Agnarr's father. The danger is serious, though still presented within an animated family-adventure style rather than graphic realism.

Content Indicators

Violence / Intensity

Some

Agnarr recounts a sudden conflict in the Enchanted Forest: 'They were attacking us,' followed by 'It was a brutal battle.' The scene includes shouting, grunting, a character yelping, and the loss of Agnarr's father. The danger is serious, though still presented within an animated family-adventure style rather than graphic realism.

Language

Minimal

Language is very mild. The main concern is gross-out humor like 'Ugh, Anna. Bleugh!' during the kissing joke, along with light teasing between family members. Strong profanity does not stand out here.

Sexual Content

Minimal

Romantic material is light and playful. In the children's make-believe game, Anna jokes, 'Who cares about danger when there's love?' and mimics kissing, followed by 'And they all get married!' It is childish humor rather than mature sexual content, but parents of younger children may still want to note the kissing play and romance language.

Elsa asks, 'Were the Northuldra magical, like me?' which touches on difference, belonging, and how she understands herself. The moment is gentle, but it opens a broader question of identity and specialness. Parents may want to discuss finding identity first in being made by God, not in unusual abilities.

Frozen II Christian Movie Review (2019)

Guidance: Talk Together

Frozen II is a family fantasy adventure with warm sibling and parent-child themes, but it also leans heavily on spirits, enchanted forces, and a mystical source of truth outside a Christian framework. The action and romance material are light, yet the spiritual ideas and message about where answers are found give parents worthwhile conversation points.

Why This Guidance Level

This lands in a middle category mainly because the film treats spirits, enchanted forces, and a mystical river tied to memory and answers as meaningful parts of its world. The battle material and danger are present but still in the range many families expect from animated adventure. For Christian families, the bigger issue is not surface content so much as the worldview conversation about spiritual power, truth, and where ultimate guidance should be sought.

Faith & Worldview Perspective

The film reflects love between sisters, parental care, courage, and a desire to uncover truth about the past. At the same time, it frames the world through elemental spirits and a mystical source of answers, which can blur the difference between fantasy storytelling and spiritual ideas that do not point to God. Christian families may want to talk about how creation is not guided by impersonal spirits and how lasting truth and hope are found in God and ultimately in Jesus Christ, not in mystical forces or hidden memories.

Truths Reflected

  • Family love and sacrificial care matter.
  • Past wrongs and hidden truths can affect later generations.

Tensions to Discuss

  • The story presents spirits of air, fire, water, and earth as powerful guardians, which may conflict with a biblical view of creation under God’s rule.
  • Ahtohallan is described as holding answers about the past, which may invite discussion about seeking truth from mystical sources rather than from God.

Content & Discernment Markers

Occult & Spiritual Content

  • The story world is openly enchanted. Agnarr describes the forest as protected by ‘the most powerful spirits of all… those of air… of fire… of water… and earth.’ Later, Ahtohallan is introduced as a special river said to hold answers about the past. For Christian families, this matters because spiritual power and guidance are tied to mystical forces rather than to the Lord. Parents may want to discuss the difference between fantasy elements and real spiritual truth in light of Jesus Christ.

Sexuality & Relationships

  • Romantic material is light and playful. In the children’s make-believe game, Anna jokes, ‘Who cares about danger when there’s love?’ and mimics kissing, followed by ‘And they all get married!’ It is childish humor rather than mature sexual content, but parents of younger children may still want to note the kissing play and romance language.

Identity Themes

  • Elsa asks, ‘Were the Northuldra magical, like me?’ which touches on difference, belonging, and how she understands herself. The moment is gentle, but it opens a broader question of identity and specialness. Parents may want to discuss finding identity first in being made by God, not in unusual abilities.

Violence & Intensity

  • Agnarr recounts a sudden conflict in the Enchanted Forest: ‘They were attacking us,’ followed by ‘It was a brutal battle.’ The scene includes shouting, grunting, a character yelping, and the loss of Agnarr’s father. The danger is serious, though still presented within an animated family-adventure style rather than graphic realism.
  • The story also includes magical peril when ‘the fighting enraged the spirits’ and ‘they turned their magic against us all,’ followed by wind, cries, and a powerful mist that locks the forest away. This may feel intense for sensitive younger viewers even without graphic detail.

Language & Humour

  • Language is very mild. The main concern is gross-out humor like ‘Ugh, Anna. Bleugh!’ during the kissing joke, along with light teasing between family members. Strong profanity does not stand out here.

Other Content Notes

  • The film gives significant weight to unanswered questions, hidden history, and the idea that the past must be uncovered to understand the present. That can be a useful conversation starter, but Christian parents may want to remind children that wisdom is not only found by looking inward or backward; it is also received from God.

Notable Moments

  • Playful kissing joke: Young Anna and Elsa play out a prince-and-princess story with exaggerated romance humor.

“Who cares about danger when there’s love?… And they all get married!”

  • Elemental spirits introduced: Agnarr explains that the Enchanted Forest is guarded by powerful spirits tied to nature.

“It was protected by the most powerful spirits of all… those of air… of fire… of water… and earth.”

  • Battle account: Agnarr describes a violent clash in the forest and the loss of his father.

“They were attacking us… It was a brutal battle… your grandfather… was lost.”

  • Mystical source of answers: Iduna introduces Ahtohallan as a river connected to memory and truth about the past.

“When I was little… my mother would sing a song about a special river called Ahtohallan… that was said to hold all the answers about the past.”

Discussion Prompts

  • Where truth comes from: The film talks about a river that holds answers about the past. Where should we go for truth and wisdom in real life?
    • Biblical guidance: God is the source of wisdom and truth, and He reveals Himself fully in Jesus Christ.
    • Scripture: James 1:5, John 14:6, Colossians 2:3
  • Spiritual power and creation: How is the movie’s idea of nature spirits different from what the Bible teaches about who rules the world?
    • Biblical guidance: Creation is not governed by independent spirits; it belongs to God and is sustained by Him.
    • Scripture: Genesis 1:1, Psalm 24:1, Colossians 1:16-17
  • Family love and courage: What good examples of love, protection, or courage did you notice in the family relationships?
    • Biblical guidance: Scripture honors sacrificial love, steadfast care, and looking out for one another.
    • Scripture: John 15:13, 1 Corinthians 13:4-7, Philippians 2:4
  • Responding to the past: When a family or community has a painful past, what does it look like to respond with truth, repentance, and hope?
    • Biblical guidance: The Bible calls us to walk in truth, confess wrong, and seek reconciliation with hope in Christ.
    • Scripture: Ephesians 4:25, 1 John 1:9, 2 Corinthians 5:17-19
